Optus has switched on 5G at Perth’s Optus stadium, giving sports and concert viewing fans 5G connectivity throughout key areas of the stadium.

Finnish telecommunications equipment vendor Nokia says it has signed 17 new commercial 5G deals in the third quarter of the year, bringing the total signed with individual customers to 100. Including paid trials, the total number of commercial engagements is said to be 160.

Nokia wins exclusive Taiwan Mobile 5G deal

Nokia has been selected by Taiwan Mobile (TWM) as the sole supplier of its 5G network in a three-year framework deal worth approximately 400 million euros.

Nokia has announced that its 5G AirScale Cloud RAN solution based on vRAN2.0 will be commercially available this year with general availability expected in 2021 following a series of successful trials in the US.

Nokia is claiming the world’s fastest 5G speeds in its Over-the-Air (OTA) network in tests performed in Dallas, Texas on base station equipment being deployed in major US carriers' commercial networks.

Nokia and Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA) have jointly announced the first deployment of low-band NR700Mhz spectrum in a field test environment in a 5G network in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.

Ericsson has been selected by Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom to provide the 5G platform to support its future 5G network, with the deployment of a non-standalone (NSA) New Radio (NR) network on mid and high-frequency bands.
